VisuLauncher app for iPhone and iPad

VisuLauncher is a great "handoff" companion app that scans phone numbers, web addresses, map addresses, email addresses, and search phrases, and then launches an appropriate application to act on the data. With new OS releases, you can start viewing on your phone and use handoff to continue on the big screen on your computer.

You identify the type of data to read using data mode buttons at the bottom of the device display. The data modes supported are Phone, Web, Search, Map and Email. Selecting a data mode configures the App to run data specific detection algorithms, show data specific favorites lists, and set an appropriate launch app.

For any data mode, you simply move the VisuLauncher viewfinder box over the data for the mode and once detected multiple times (within a few seconds), VisuLauncher launches an application relevant for the scanned data. You can also double tap an item to launch it.

You can save scanned data to a favorites list, convenient for taking a note. You can then launch the data later by double tapping it in the favorites list. Each data mode has a single default favorites list but you can create new favorites lists in any data mode. You manage favorites list by double tapping the title for the current list which then allows you to add new lists and/or select an existing favorites list to be the current list.

When scanning data, the app is divided into three sections - the top is a scanning area, the middle section is a list of scan detections (the detections list), and the bottom section is the current selected favorites list for the mode. When not scanning data, only the current favorites list is displayed. If you single tap an item in the detections list, it is added to the favorites list. An Item in the favorites list is launched by double tapping it. You can also double tap an item in the detections list to launch it - useful if a correct detection is made but is not auto launching.

The App as downloaded from the App store includes the Phone data mode. Web, Email and search data modes all become available by purchasing the Internet Data Support option via In App Purchase. Map Address data mode becomes available by purchasing the Map Data Support option via In App Purchase. To purchase any of these options, simply tap the mode button and choose More Info when prompted.

The best way to understand all the features of the App is to press View Help Video accessible from Info & Settings and select the help video for VisuLauncher. Optical Character Recognition technology can sometimes have errors so there can be multiple potential detections for the data being scanned in the list. This permits you to pick (double tap) the correct one if the App doesnt automatically pick one for you. You can also edit errors in a list item - simply hold the item until your are prompted with the data to edit, complete your edits, and then double tap the corrected item in the list to launch.

After an application was launched for your scanned data (either automatic or when you double tapped), you return to VisuLauncher using the home button and reselecting the VisuLauncher App.

Although the app will in most cases scan data correctly, it can still have errors. You should double check that the data in the launched application matches the data you intended to scan before acting on it.
